Collagen and elastin are two essential structural proteins within the dermis that are responsible for skin strength, firmness, elasticity and resilience. From the mid-to-late twenties, the body produces approximately 1–2% less collagen each year, with a progressive decline in elastin and overall extracellular matrix support. Over time, this gradual loss contributes to thinning of the skin, reduced elasticity, fine lines, wrinkles and laxity.

This natural process is influenced not only by intrinsic ageing, but also by extrinsic factors such as ultraviolet (UV) exposure, environmental pollution, chronic stress, poor sleep, smoking and hormonal changes. In particular, reduced oestrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause can accelerate collagen degradation in the skin.

Dermal collagen and elastin enhancement consultations in Sydney focus on assessing skin quality, thickness, elasticity and overall structural integrity. Rather than simply addressing surface changes, these consultations aim to support the underlying dermal architecture, promoting healthier, stronger and more resilient skin over time.

Areas commonly assessed include the face, neck, décolletage and hands, where signs of collagen and elastin loss tend to appear earlier and more noticeably. Individual concerns such as dullness, loss of firmness, textural irregularity and creeping are carefully evaluated.

During the consultation with Dr Brandon, a personalised skin assessment is performed, taking into account age, genetics, sun exposure history, lifestyle factors and current skin condition. A tailored, conservative management plan may then be discussed to support skin regeneration, improve texture and maintain long-term dermal health.

These consultations are suitable for individuals seeking preventative skin support, early intervention strategies or management of existing signs of ageing.
