Emergency Care for Referred Complications of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Dermal Fillers, Skin Boosters and Biostimulators in Sydney

Injectable aesthetic treatments such as hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers, skin boosters and biostimulators are generally well tolerated when appropriately administered. However, as with any medical procedure, complications can occasionally occur. These may present immediately or develop over time and may require urgent medical assessment.

Dr Brandon may accept referred cases for the assessment and management of aesthetic complications, when appropriate and subject to availability. These cases are approached within a strictly medical framework, with emphasis on patient safety, tissue preservation and evidence-based decision-making.

Possible complications may include:

  • Pain or increasing tenderness
  • Skin blanching, discolouration or mottling
  • Persistent or worsening swelling
  • Nodules, firmness or delayed inflammatory responses
  • Infection or abscess formation
  • Filler migration or inappropriate placement
  • Visual disturbance or neurological symptoms (rare but serious)

Individuals who experience any concerning symptoms following filler, skin booster or biostimulatory treatments. Particularly pain, colour changes, visual symptoms, progressive swelling or skin breakdown. Should contact their original treating practitioner immediately and seek urgent medical assessment. This is critical, as early recognition and prompt management can significantly influence outcomes.

When assessed, Dr Brandon may perform a detailed clinical evaluation, including medical and treatment history, physical examination, and where indicated, ultrasound imaging to assist in identifying filler presence, tissue involvement and vascular structures.

Management decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. In some situations, close monitoring may be appropriate. In others, medical intervention, ultrasound-guided treatment or referral to emergency or specialist services may be required. Not all concerns necessitate invasive treatment, and conservative management is often the safest approach.

Emergency-related consultations in this area are not provided as a cosmetic “correction” service, but rather as a carefully considered medical response to potential complications.
